Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission announced the launch of Forward Toledo, a comprehensive land-use plan which will guide land development goals in Toledo for the next 10-20 years. It is our community's collective statement on who we want to be and how we would like to grow as a city.
Land is a limited resource and should be planned for the greatest public benefit. Forward Toledo is looking for input from city planning staff, committee members and all Toledoans to provide guidance for development, prioritize City policies, and fund new products.
The Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission is a government department focused on how land is used and developed. Forward Toledo is looking at ‘big picture’ goals for the City’s future.
“The Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission is excited to start public engagement for the Forward Toledo Comprehensive Land-Use Plan. It will establish a set of priorities that will help guide development decisions within the City of Toledo,” Joshua Lewandowski, principal planner, Lucas-County Planning Commission, said.
“It focuses on how land is used, how buildings are designed, and the ways that can impact the overall quality of a neighborhood.”
A critical component in the comprehensive plan is public engagement. The results of short surveys, theme surveys, written or emailed feedback, pop-up events and neighborhood meetings will inform the priorities in looking toward the future landscape of Toledo.
“We are actively seeking involved neighborhood groups to connect and collaborate with at their upcoming meetings,” Lewandowski said.
What’s in the Plan?
There will be a short survey and five other surveys divided thematically: Sustain, Build, Place, Play, and Move. Residents input will influence how to use or protect local resources, preserve historic buildings or areas, create a certain sense of place, foster community life, and protect the overall well-being of our residents.
Residents, neighborhood groups, organizations or companies that are interested in learning more about the Comprehensive Land Use Plan can request a presentation and a city planner will contact you.
