Toledo, Ohio – On June 16, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement following major storms overnight across Northwest Ohio, including a tornado that touched down in North Toledo in Point Place.

“Last night a dangerous storm ripped through Northwest Ohio causing severe damage and leaving thousands without power throughout our region. There have been reports and videos showing tornados touching down in Point Place, causing a partial building collapse and significant damage. Further damage and other tornado sightings are still being assessed by the National Weather Service in other areas. I am in contact with local elected officials in North Toledo and Point Place, the office of Ohio Emergency Management (OEMA), and Governor DeWine’s office. While we do not know the full extent of the damage at this time, we will continue to be there for those in our community who need assistance following this ordeal.

“Toledo Fire and Rescue have asked that people stay in their homes to avoid impacted areas so the damage can be accurately assessed, and work can be done without interference to clear debris and restore power lines. The public is asked to let them do their job. My thoughts are with all those who have suffered losses. My staff and I will continue to monitor the situation and will be in constant contact with local, state, and federal authorities to ensure that necessary assistance is made available as we learn more about the extent of the damage.”
