As summer moves into full swing, it's time to appreciate the incredible efforts and teamwork that go into preparing our six Toledo City public pools and splash pad. These recreational areas provide our youth with a safe and enjoyable space to cool off on hot days, keeping them engaged and away from potential trouble. Jim Lewis, our Manager of Facility Operations, rightly emphasizes the importance of these facilities in fostering positive interactions among our youth.
He also recognizes that this massive undertaking couldn't have been accomplished single-handedly. "I couldn't have done this myself,” Lewis said. “My team, Local Seven, including carpenters, plumbers, electricians, utility workers, and painters, played integral roles in bringing our pools and splash pad to life."
An impressive 671 man-hours were dedicated to preparing the pools for the 2023 summer season. Extensive cleaning, painting, and concrete repairs were conducted in the pool area, including the pool itself and the surrounding deck.
Lewis' department consists of approximately 18 individuals, including supervisors. Their collective experience and expertise, along with the support of long-serving employees in the city, have been instrumental in successfully maintaining and improving our city pools and splash pad.
A huge thank you goes to Jim Lewis and his dedicated team, as well as all the individuals and departments involved, for their outstanding commitment and hard work. Their efforts ensure that our pools and splash pad are ready to provide a fun and safe environment for our community's enjoyment this summer.
