State Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson praised the Ohio Senate's recent approval of House Bill 15, a legislation designed to overhaul the state's energy policies. This initiative aims to safeguard consumers, enhance power generation, and improve the state's electric grid. House Bill 15 is comparable to Senate Bill 2, which the Senate had approved in March without opposition.

"Our vote today is a long time coming to unravel the financial burden of House Bill 6 in Ohio," said Hicks-Hudson. "While not perfect, it does alleviate the financial burden of propping up an inefficient Indiana coal plant."

Key provisions of House Bill 15 include:

- Requiring utilities to justify their expenditures of ratepayer-collected funds, promoting accountability and transparency.

- Ending the "Legacy Generation Rider," eliminating the financial burden of OVEC subsidies on Ohioans and saving ratepayers approximately $450,000 daily.

- Establishing a school energy efficiency loan program to help public schools cut energy expenses.

- Ensuring consumers receive refunds for any improper charges.

The bill will return to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
