Marcy Kaptur, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 9th district since 1983, recently shared her thoughts on social media regarding significant political and religious developments.

On May 8, 2025, Rep. Marcy Kaptur announced that she had led a letter alongside Representatives Wesley Bell, Mike Quigley, and Hank Johnson to President Biden and Attorney General Pam Bondi. The letter called for the withdrawal of Eagle Ed Martin's nomination due to "concerning ties to Russian state media amongst other concerns." She expressed satisfaction that "his nomination has since been pulled."

Later that day, Kaptur commented on a historic event in the Catholic Church. As a lifelong Catholic from the Great Lakes region, she expressed being "deeply moved" by the selection of Pope Leo XIV from Chicago’s South Side as he became the first American pope. She described this moment as "astounding."

In another tweet posted at nearly the same time, Kaptur reflected on this papal election as "a true moment of grace for our nation, our Great Lakes region, and the world," adding her hope that "the Saints be praised."

Marcy Kaptur was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1946 and continues to reside there. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1968.
