Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 9th district since 1983, has been vocal on several issues affecting her constituents and the nation. Her recent social media posts highlight community development, budgetary concerns, and constitutional violations.
On May 13, Rep. Kaptur celebrated the opening of the new Wayman Palmer YMCA in Toledo. She noted that federal investment contributed to creating "a beacon of opportunity and a hub of community for the Warren Sherman neighborhood."
The following day, May 14, she addressed budgetary issues by criticizing a GOP proposal. In her tweet, she stated: "The GOP budget slashes over $300 Billion from SNAP to fund tax cuts for Billionaires." She joined forces with @DemWomenCaucus to urge opposition to what she described as an extremist bill targeting women and families.
Later on May 14, Kaptur raised concerns about former President Trump’s acceptance of a gift from Qatar. In her post, she expressed that Ohioans were outraged by this "$400 Million luxury 'palace in the sky,'" which she argued violates the emoluments clause of the Constitution amid a shortage of trained air traffic controllers.
Marcy Kaptur was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1946 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1968 with a BA.
