Rep. Marcy Kaptur, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 9th district, shared her thoughts on various issues through a series of tweets recently. Kaptur, who has been in office since 1983 after replacing Ed Weber, took to social media to express her views on Peace Officers Memorial Day and the current budget proposals.
On May 15, 2025, Rep. Kaptur reflected on Peace Officers Memorial Day by acknowledging the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. She stated, "Today on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty. Each one a protector. Their courage endures, and their absence is felt every day. May we honor them not only in memory but in how we value and support those who continue to".
The following day, May 16, 2025, she addressed concerns regarding a proposed budget bill. Kaptur criticized it as being detrimental to American values and particularly harmful to Medicaid beneficiaries. She remarked that "Budgets are about American values. This one is cruel, lopsided, and dangerous. Let's begin with the most glaring danger. This bill takes a wrecking ball to Medicaid, on which 1 in 5 Americans and 3 million Ohioans depend for medical care."
Later that same day, Kaptur commented on the failure of the GOP to pass their own budget bill and highlighted its potential impact on working families and vulnerable populations. She tweeted that "GOP fails to pass their own Budget bill. Working families, parents juggling multiple jobs, hourly workers trying to make ends meet, and caregivers who already stretch every $ just to put food on the table are all at risk as @HouseGOP plans gut the safety net to give more to the".
Born in Toledo in 1946 and holding a BA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison since 1968, Marcy Kaptur continues her long-standing political career while residing in her hometown.
