On May 19, 2025, Rep. Kaptur addressed a tragic event in Fremont, Ohio while preparing for a Budget Committee vote in Washington D.C. She wrote: "As we gather in DC for a 10 pm Budget Committee vote, I am closely monitoring reports of a fatal train collision in Fremont, Ohio. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost, and the first responders on the scene. We will press for more answers and information."
