Rep. Marcy Kaptur, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 9th district since 1983, shared her views on Russia and Ukraine through a series of tweets. Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1946, Kaptur has been an active political figure with a background from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
On June 1, 2025, Rep. Kaptur highlighted the significant military and geographical stature of Russia by stating that "Russia is the 3rd largest military in world. It encompasses 11 time zones and is rich in oil and minerals. Its population is more than 3 times the size of Ukraine." She noted that despite these advantages, President Vladimir Putin desires control over Ukraine, which she described as "the lowest income nation in Europe."
In another tweet posted on the same day, Kaptur addressed recent Ukrainian military actions against Russian assets. She remarked that "For the continuing horror Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has exacted on the people and free nation of Ukraine, this multiple strike by Ukrainian drones on key Russian military air field assets is long overdue."
Additionally, Rep. Kaptur expressed her hopes for diplomatic intervention by urging former President Trump to leverage his influence to impose further sanctions on Russia or collaborate with Congress towards this goal. In her words: "Today as June begins, may President Trump use all his persuasive power and impose further sanctions on Russia, or work with Congress to do so." She emphasized her desire for negotiations to end what she called an "unnecessary and costly war defiling Europe and our planet."
