Rep. Marcy Kaptur, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 9th district, recently shared her thoughts and experiences over the Independence Day weekend through a series of tweets. Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1946, Kaptur has been an active political figure since replacing Ed Weber in 1983.

On July 4th, Kaptur encouraged Americans to support local jobs by choosing union-made goods for their Independence Day celebrations. She emphasized the importance of these products in supporting workers across America and particularly in Northwest Ohio. "This Independence Day, as you fire up the grill, remember that union-made goods support jobs right here in NW Ohio and across America. From hot dogs to charcoal, choose products that support our workers."

Later that day, she attended a community event at Walbridge Park where she enjoyed various activities including tasting summer pies and engaging with service members and families from the area. She expressed her appreciation for the event and extended holiday wishes to all attendees. "Enjoyed the annual #4thofJuly Party at Walbridge Park. Great tasting various summer pies, talking with service members, listening to the Jazz band, and spending time with families from across our community."

The following day on July 5th, Kaptur highlighted the significance of Lake Erie as a vital freshwater resource shared between the United States and Canada. She noted its importance for regional survival and prosperity while reflecting on conservation efforts that have led to positive environmental changes such as an increase in Bald Eagle populations around Lake Erie since her early days in office. "Lake Erie is our LIFE SOURCE—we survive and thrive because of its freshwater."

Marcy Kaptur holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison obtained in 1968.
