Representative Marcy Kaptur, who has served Ohio’s 9th District in the U.S. Congress since 1983, recently addressed several urgent national issues through her social media posts. The messages included calls for federal action following a natural disaster in Texas and criticism of the Trump Administration’s handling of law enforcement funding and Homeland Security priorities.
On July 11, 2025, Kaptur stated her collaboration with Rep. Lloyd Doggett, Dean of the Texas Congressional Delegation, and Rep. Eric Sorensen, described as "the only meteorologist in Congress," to seek immediate intervention from federal agencies after catastrophic flash flooding in Kerr County, Texas. The disaster reportedly resulted in over 100 fatalities. In her words: "Working with @RepLloydDoggett Dean of the Texas Congressional Delegation, and @RepEricSorensen, the only meteorologist in Congress, to call for immediate action from federal agencies following catastrophic flash flooding in Kerr County, Texas, that claimed over 100 lives."
In a follow-up post on July 11, Kaptur provided additional resources regarding their efforts by sharing a press release link: "You can find a full copy of our press release here: https://t.co/in9AnasMgT".
On July 13, Kaptur criticized the Trump Administration's policies related to law enforcement funding and Homeland Security operations. She wrote: "The Trump Administration has put Millions of dollars in jeopardy meant for law enforcement, while at the same time Homeland Security agents have been diverted from targeting human smugglers and drug traffickers. It's not surprising to see they've chosen secrecy over https://t.co/yOMLrTipUR".
Marcy Kaptur was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1946 and continues to reside there at age 76. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a BA in 1968.
