U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur, who has served Ohio’s 9th district since 1983, recently addressed economic concerns in a series of posts on her official Twitter account. Her comments focused on the impact of tariffs, labor shortages, and the importance of supporting local agriculture.
On July 16, 2025, Kaptur questioned the Trump Administration’s approach to trade policy: "As more Trump Administration tariff news broke heading into the weekend, I ask: Why is the Trump Administration doing this again? People in my region want a job they can count on. Let's do business and quit shaming our allies and fair trade partners."
Later that day, she highlighted her support for local farmers after meeting with Rusty Goebel, President of Ohio Soybean Association: "Great to catch up with @OhioSoybean President @RustyGoebel from Williams County, and thank him for his advocacy in DC, and back home in NW Ohio. I will continue to stand alongside him and all Soy farmers across our region, because they make and grow what makes and grows America."
In another post on July 16, Kaptur criticized recent economic trends affecting rural communities: "Unpredictable Tariffs and labor shortages are tanking America’s Heartland economy — driving prices up, and economic security down. It’s time for the @GOP to LISTEN to hurting families and deliver relief. I’m ready to work."
Kaptur’s statements come amid ongoing debates about U.S. trade policy under former President Donald Trump’s administration. The implementation of tariffs during that period was controversial among lawmakers representing agricultural regions due to concerns about negative effects on local economies.
A native of Toledo born in 1946, Kaptur continues to reside in her hometown while serving as a long-standing member of Congress from Ohio's 9th District. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree.
