Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 9th district since 1983, posted a series of tweets on July 20, 2025, outlining recent resolutions related to the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin.

In her first tweet on July 20, Kaptur stated: "A resolution entitled 'Upholding the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Agreement and Compact,' reaffirming the Cities Initiative’s unwavering support for the Agreement and Compact – especially the ban on out-of-basin diversions."

She followed with another post emphasizing federal funding for environmental protection: "A resolution entitled 'Protecting US Federal Funding to Combat Erosion and Flooding Across the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Basin,' calling on Congress to reject proposed funding cuts to NOAA programs that strengthen coastal resilience." This highlights concerns about potential reductions in support for programs managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Her third tweet addressed public health infrastructure: "A resolution entitled 'Maintaining Progress on Lead Service Line Replacement Through the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements,' encouraging Congress to reject any effort to repeal or weaken the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements."

Kaptur, who was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1946 and continues to reside there, has focused much of her legislative work on issues affecting her district's proximity to Lake Erie and broader regional water systems. She earned a BA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1968.

The resolutions referenced by Kaptur underscore ongoing efforts among lawmakers from Great Lakes states to protect water resources, secure federal investment in coastal resilience projects, and advance public health protections through improved water infrastructure standards.
