Rep. Marcy Kaptur, who represents Ohio’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, marked the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid this week with a series of posts on her social media account. Kaptur addressed both the legacy of these federal health programs and recent actions by political opponents, while also commenting on reported renovations at the White House.

On July 31, 2025, Kaptur wrote, "This week marks 60 years of Medicare and Medicaid—our nation's promise to seniors and those in need that they will have access to health care. While Republicans have voted to gut Medicare and Medicaid, I will fight to restore funding and protect and strengthen these programs for https://t.co/bUDe05gXVH".

Later that day, she criticized spending priorities at the Trump White House: "With crises piling up across the country—the Trump White House is focused on a $200 Million ballroom? Gutting the historic Rose Garden and covering the Oval Office in “gold” were just a start. Think of a gold decked ballroom for the People’s House every time you hear https://t.co/sHWoRPhvBr". She followed up with an additional post directing readers to further information: "Read more here: https://t.co/7FZhdlwZzS".

Kaptur has represented Ohio's 9th District since 1983 after succeeding Ed Weber. She was born in Toledo, Ohio in 1946 and continues to reside there. Kaptur earned her BA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1968.
