U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur, who has served Ohio’s 9th district in Congress since 1983, raised concerns on social media about the recent dismissal of the Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner following a negative manufacturing jobs report.

On August 1, 2025, Kaptur posted: "Firing the nonpartisan commissioner of Bureau of Labor Statistics just hours after a deeply worrying report showing serious job loss in manufacturing is what you'd expect in a Banana Republic. Dr. McEntarfer is nonpartisan, and was confirmed with 86 bipartisan votes. This is no https://t.co/h3It3kFVvs" (posted August 1, 2025). In another post earlier that day, she shared additional resources for her followers: "Read more here: https://t.co/H5W0WDnDUo" (August 1, 2025), and later added: "Find more here: https://t.co/f1LdQ5YcI2" (August 1, 2025).

Kaptur's remarks come amid concerns over employment trends in U.S. manufacturing and follow the removal of Dr. McEntarfer from his role as commissioner—a position he assumed with broad bipartisan support.

Marcy Kaptur has been a member of Congress since replacing Ed Weber in 1983 and currently resides in Toledo, Ohio, where she was born in 1946. She holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
