Rep. Marcy Kaptur, who has represented Ohio’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 1983, addressed a range of local and national issues through a series of posts on her social media account this week.
On August 5, 2025, Kaptur criticized a recent federal decision regarding solar energy funding: “Today’s move to cancel $7 Billion in awards through the EPA’s Solar for All initiative, including $312 Million for Ohio is reckless, careless, and will cause job losses in American manufacturing.”
The following day, she highlighted infrastructure improvements in northwest Ohio: “Maumee and Monclova welcomed the new US 20A interchange at I-475/US 23 this week. Improved public safety along Illinois Avenue will help ensure safety for travelers on this busy interstate corridor. Honored to help improve public safety through our region.” (August 6, 2025).
Later that same day, Kaptur reflected on an event celebrating new American citizens: “An honored tradition as the Federal Court hosted naturalization ceremonies swearing-in new citizens to our nation. I would not be where I am today if my family had not come to build a better life for themselves in NW Ohio. America is a nation of immigrants who breathe fresh life” (August 6, 2025).
Kaptur has been an advocate for her district since first taking office over four decades ago after replacing Ed Weber. Born in Toledo in 1946 and currently residing there, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a BA in 1968.
