State Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson has been elected as Ohio’s representative on the Executive Committee of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Legislative Caucus (GLLC) for the 2025-26 term. This decision was made during the GLLC's Annual Meeting in 2024. Hicks-Hudson, who serves Ohio’s 11th Senate District, has been part of the GLLC since 2019. Her previous roles include being a Birkholz Institute Fellow and a member of the Task Force on Nutrient Management.
Before joining the state legislature, Hicks-Hudson held office as mayor of Toledo.
The Executive Committee is composed of representatives from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ontario, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Québec, and Wisconsin. Alongside other members of this committee, Hicks-Hudson will help steer GLLC activities over the next two years.
The GLLC's agenda addresses issues such as water consumption, coastal resiliency, nutrient management, toxic substances, and aquatic invasive species.
Receiving staff support from The Council of State Governments’ Midwestern Office, the GLLC stands out as a nonpartisan binational group dedicated to legislators concerned with Great Lakes issues. It aims to enhance legislative roles in policymaking across regional and international levels by promoting policy recommendations and collaboration for preserving and sustainably using the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River.
