State Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson of Toledo has expressed her support for the recent passage of Senate Bill 2 in the Ohio Senate. The bill aims to overhaul energy policies in Ohio, focusing on consumer protection, increased power generation, and improvements to the state's electric grid.

Hicks-Hudson stated, "My vote today on this important piece of legislation will support the protection of consumers, increase energy reliability, break down energy barriers, and enhance Ohio’s free market." She added that she hopes this legislation will mark the beginning of a comprehensive energy policy to foster and safeguard Ohio's growth.

Senate Bill 2 proposes several changes if enacted. It would promote accountability by requiring utilities to undergo regular rate cases and justify their expenditure of ratepayer-collected funds. The bill also seeks to terminate the "Legacy Generation Rider," which currently costs Ohioans approximately $450,000 daily for OVEC subsidies. Furthermore, it includes a proposal for a school energy efficiency loan program aimed at reducing public schools' energy expenses and ensures that consumers receive refunds for improper charges.

The bill now proceeds to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
